There is a substantial market for ballistic protection systems worldwide since they are used extensively in the military, law enforcement, and the private security industry. Manufacturers now put much time and energy into developing improved body armor, including better helmets, anti-ballistic vests, bulletproof chest protection, and other forms of protection. Anti-ballistic defense systems come in a very wide variety of configurations. Ballistic blankets offer category IIIA ballistic protection in various tactical situations. A ballistic blanket can be used as a personal shield or to cover a door, window, or wall when hiding from danger.

Manufacturers use high-performance fibers like polyethylene, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and the family of aramid fibers to create commercially available malleable and flexible ballistic materials (sometimes called soft armor). Recent studies have shown promise for the development of new fibers and chemicals in the category of high-performance fibers. Until recently, the primary uses of this soft armor were for huge ballistic blankets, personal armor garments for military and law enforcement, and a few niche applications for special operations teams.

Ballistic blankets are produced from lightweight, high-strength materials and act as protective barriers against (Level IIIA) ammunition. This blanket is ideal for police and military vehicles since it can be a bulletproof barrier for passenger seats, windows, or doors. They are very suitable for use since officers can quickly throw them over walls and windows. Military officers also use ballistic blankets when breaching.
